Weekend Hashtag Project: #WHPbluronpurpose

Weekend Hashtag Project is a series featuring designated themes & hashtags chosen by Instagram’s Community Team. For a chance to be featured on the Instagram blog, follow @instagram and look for a photo announcing the weekend’s project every Friday.

This weekend’s tag was #WHPbluronpurpose, which asked participants to capture photographs that were intentionally out of focus. Every Monday we feature some of our favorite submissions from the project, but be sure to check out the rest here.

A lake in Camargue, France has found itself blushing due to what scientists call “unusually high levels of salt.” Sam Dobson was driving along when he noticed the phenomenon:

‘every small branch is covered with crystals. with the red water as a background it looks like something extra-terrestrial.’

The Twelve Apostles in Australia

Want to see more? Head on over to The Twelve Apostles’ location page, as well as the #12apostles hashtag.

The 12 Apostles are a collection of rugged limestone rock stacks that rise up from the Southern Ocean on Victoria, Australia’s coastline. They were created by continual erosion of the coastal cliffs caused by the harsh weather conditions of the Southern Ocean.

Over millions of years, they have transformed from caves in the cliffs into arches that eventually collapsed to become nine 45 meter rock stacks. Today, there are only eight stacks remaining due to further erosion from waves that continue to threaten their existence. If given the chance, head to Australia to see these beautiful sleeping giants before they are gone!
